The evolution is nothing short of a paradigm shift. Historically, the database was viewed as a rigid, passive “system of record”—a back-end utility designed merely to store structured data. This model severely inhibited innovation, as every new product or data source required a lengthy, expensive schema redesign.
Today, data itself is the core commercial asset, and the database has evolved into an active platform for innovation.
